About Me

Hi, my name is Jennifer Saarinen. And that's a picture of me and my daughter Maija about 5 years ago. I know it's old but it's my favorite picture EVER! I'm a stay at home mom. My girls are 4 and 9. Both my daughters were born by C-section, much to my dismay. I really tried to avoid it but there is only so much you can do. The safety of my babies were most important. I do feel like I have something missing in me because I was unable to deliver them naturally.
But I'm getting over it:)

I've never been one to have much energy and have suffered from depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember. I've been off medication for a number of years now. Only because I've been able to stay at home with the kids rather than have to deal with working outside the home.

Since my husband is the only one with a income I've tried several things that I can do from home to make a little cash to help out with expenses. I've become an agent for Oliver's Labels and recently signed up with Watkin's Naturals. I also babysit for a friend 3 days a week and now I'm trying my hand at blogging. All this while homeschooling the girls. It can all be very overwhelming and sometimes I don't think I can handle things. But there are lots of good days too and I can't imagine life any different.

I hope to share on this blog the ups and downs of my life. Stories of homeschooling and family life, recipe, crafts and such. Plus I hope to start reviewing products myself  and bring my fans some great giveaways.

So I hope you come by and check it out every once and a while and share your comments and thoughts with me too:)

I decided to check out your site. I'm subscribed to your site and following you on your social media apps. I quickly read you 'about me' section, and we both have the unwanted & traumatic c-section under our belt. i'm also still trying to cope with it. i would love it if you could stop by my little corner of the internet: http://www.theheartnart.com. hope to you soon :)

  6. My fiance and I just decided that I will stay at home with the kids. He has three girls and I have two boys. All of them are in school but with my fibromyalgia, it is hard trying to work and keep a job. I have been thinking about blogging but have no idea where to start or what to do so I just follow blogs and enter giveaways. I love being able to wake up with the kids and get their day going and being here when they get home from school to help them with homework, do crafts, or watch them play outside. Even though my fiance's daughters are not mine, I love them like my own and love the fact that they love me as much and want to spend time with me whereas my boys want video games or to go get dirty. I try to be active with the boys but it is hard. I salute you for all that you are doing while dealing with depression.

  7. How do I get started with homeschooling? I'm thinking about homeschooling my two soon to be three year old daughter until kindergarten. She's very interested in learning and is bored with all her toys! I can't help but feel that she's hungry to learn! We also have a one year old son that I'd like to do the same with. Preschools in my area only offer 2 days/week at 2 hrs each. That's 16 hrs of preschool for $75/month! Not to mention gas to go back and forth. Any advice on how to start?

  8. I found your blog through the facebook group we are both a part of. I am appreciative of your raw honestly about your life and situation. So many bloggers try to have a "perfect world" appearance, but you and I know that isn't the case -- for anyone! Looks like you have done a great job of obtaining your blogger goals - congrats. I just began blogging in January and so far have loved it. Most people are very open and welcoming. Keep up the good work!

  9. I think that many can deliver their babies "the normal" way, but it doesn't make them any better at raising their babies, it looks like you have done awesome by the smile on your daughters face, It only maters that you and your baby are healthy, and when it comes down to it labour( anyway bringing a baby into the world) is the easy part, raising them is the hard part lol:)
And congrats on your new blog you will do great and have fun:)

  10. That's a beautiful photo of the two of you. It's nice to get to know you a little better. I am lucky that I managed to avoid C-sections, though giving birth naturally is no easy task in itself it does mean that I was up and about very quickly from my 2nd child on I managed to squirm my way out of hospital in ever shorter periods of time. For my last baby I only had to stay in hospital for 2 hrs. It's so nice to go home and relax whilst cuddling a new baby. I certainly don't think that you should be despondent about having to have C-sections, like someone else said it's not the giving birth itself that's the difficult part, it's what you make out of bringing them up and that is so very true. :-)

  12. Hi Jennifer, it's nice to meet you. My name is Alexa. There is nothing wrong with having to deliver your child by c-section. I delivered my eldest son (now 24) by c-section. I remember being told by the health nurse when she came to visit me at home that it was good that I had a c-section, as his head was big. I also delivered our youngest son (now 22) naturally. Let me tell you there was a time when I had heavy duty contractions that I pleaded with my husband to have them knock me out. I still remember that clear as day now. You mentioned that you have suffered from depression. I had a ruptured brain aneurysm 12 years ago and I must take an anti-depressant daily. I have tried to go off of it, to no avail. I will be on the anti-depressant for the rest of my life. I am a new reader of your blog and I plan to visit on a regular basis. Touch base again with you soon Jennifer.

    1. Thanks for your comments Alexa. Since I wrote this 'about me' post my sister has had two babies. I was there for both births as my sisters support person/coach. Her husband was there too, but since we lost our mom a number of years ago, I had the privilege of being there to support her as well. She had both babies naturally with no pain medication and she did wonderfully. They were unforgettable experiences that helped to fill a void I felt inside.

Depression is something that so many people have to deal with. More people than most realize. Sorry to hear about what you've had to go through. But it sounds like you are the type of person that makes the best out of things despite hardships. I'm glad to have you as a new reader. Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to connect with me :)
