Peace of mind with @ReactMobile: FREE Personal Safety App

React Mobile Personal Safety App from Robb on Vimeo.

Have you ever been in a situation where you are out alone, perhaps walking your dog in the evening, coming home late from work on the bus, walking to your car in an indoor parking garage, or just walking through a neighbourhood that feels unsafe? Don't you wish you had something to keep you safe or offer you some comfort in those moments?

React Mobile is just what you need for these situations. After being held at gunpoint during a home invasion while in college several years ago React Mobile Co-Founder, Robb Monkman, was inspired to create a personal safety app that could be used to silently and discreetly alert a wide network, including the authorities, of an emergency and its location.

Follow Me

Follow Me allows your chosen contacts to track where you are during a specific period of time. For example if you are walking home from a friends house you can set the duration for perhaps a half hour. Your friend can then track your location in real-time as you head home. When you arrive home you can simply tap the I'm Safe button to let them know you arrived safely.

I can think of several circumstances when this feature would be very useful. When my husband and I were dating 14 years ago it took him almost an hour for him to drive home at night after dropping me home. I was always worried about him because it was late and I knew he was tired. The 'Follow Me' feature would have eased my worries knowing that I could track where he was and he could easily let me know when he was home. My husband also loves playing hockey with his friends in the evening and more often than not they'll grab a drink and some chicken wings on the way home. Sometimes he's as late as 3am getting home and that can make me quite anxious not knowing where he is. This app would ease my fears.

On the flip side, I know that my husband would like to be able to track where I am when I take the dogs for a walk, especially this time of year when it gets dark so early. Also, when he's at work, if I take the kids out during the day, either to the library or the store, he always likes to know when we're out and when we're home safe again.
Send SOS

The Send SOS feature allows you to quickly and easily alert friends, family, and even the authorities in case of an emergency. All you need to do is press the SOS shield on the app to send out a panic alert to your preselected emergency contacts containing a link to your GPS location via text message and email. When I was testing the app while writing this post I activated the SOS alert just to try it out. My husband called me a minute later to ask if I was OK because he received a text message stating I was in trouble and needed help. I didn't mean to worry him. But at least I know it works! You can also adjust your settings to include the option to post to Facebook and Twitter as well. Once the SOS alert is activated, you’re automatically prompted to dial 911. Either press Dial 911 or No to cancel.

If you and your family would love to have the peace of mind that this app offers, I encourage you to download it today and try it out. Don't forget to tell your friends, family, schoolmates, and workmates about React Mobile. It's FREE and you never know when you might really need it.

  22. thanks for the review. It's actually quite depressing to know that people think this is necessary. I remember as a child walking to school on my own, playing in the woods, playing in the street with friends, unlocked doors. Simple pleasures but ones that children these days can't enjoy, it's a real shame.
