Welcome to our Get Healthy in 2013 Great Saunas Giveaway!
It's a new year and time to start making some changes. I remember the days when I felt young and thin and actually had an ounce of energy. These days I get tired just watching my kids run around. I'm 35, my knees hurt, my back hurts, I'm overweight, and I don't have the energy to play with my own kids. So that's it! Enough already! Time to take action!
Step 1: Find support
I have a fantastic group of blogger friends who have decided to get together to support one another in our quest to lose weight and get healthy. We share our ups and downs, our accomplishments and even some yummy recipes. Family support is also crucial. It doesn't help if hubby keeps bringing home chips and ice cream, or if the kids are always eating candy in front of me. My husband and kids know how important this is to me and I hope that, not only will they support me, but they will join me in making healthier choices.
Step 2: Get active
This one is a bit hard during the cold winter months up here in Canada. Next week's wind chill is supposed to be as low as -22°C! Not very conducive to outdoor exercise. So hubby bought a used elliptical machine for me. Nice guy, eh? So far I can barely do 2 minutes on it but with a little bit every day I'm sure my endurance will improve. Another fun way to exercise is with Just Dance on our Wii. Even if i'm tired, once the kids turn it on and I hear the music I just have to dance along. Before I know it, I've done 4 or 5 songs and i'm exhausted! Once spring is here and the weather is nicer I definitely plan on adding daily walks to my routine. But for now, this is a great start.
Step 3: Eat healthy
I hardly doubt that sausages with perogies cooked in bacon, and meatloaf with mashed potatoes made with butter, milk and sour cream are helping me achieve my weight loss goals. I've always felt there are great benefits to a vegan diet. I gave it a try a couple years ago and did really well. Even without exercise, the weight was dropping off and I felt great. I'm making delicious soups and chilies and adding lots of fruits and vegetables to my diet. I just joined a local delivery program that will deliver fresh organic or locally grown fruits and veggies right to my door every week. I'm hoping the 'if it's in the house, I'll eat it' thing works. Every little bit helps. And this time, I'm determined!
So that's my plan for this year.
If you have plans to get healthy this year I truly wish you all the best:)

ReplyDeleteMy health goal for this year is to make sure I eat a better balanced diet. I am so busy on the road all the time with my job and I simply don't eat well or properly. I am ashamed to say that I don't eat breakfast, nor do I eat lunch and by the time I get home, it is dinner time & I have a headache. By that point, I'm ravenous and eat everything in site...I have been making a huge effort to change that ridiculous behavior. ;-)
