DK Canada ~ My Art Book {REVIEW)

Art was always one of my favourite subjects in school. I think it runs in the family. My mom used to draw very realistic portraits and I loved drawing cartoon characters. It's no wonder my girls have an artistic gene, especially my 9 year old. Maija is drawing constantly. She finds picture books or pauses the TV and copies what she sees. She makes pages upon pages of pictures and then punches holes in them and ties them together, turning them into books.

Because of her love for art I really want to focus part of our homeschooling on the subject. But I wasn't sure where to get the ideas and the information I needed to teach her the many varieties of art techniques that are out there.

I was so happy when I was given the opportunity to review My Art Book from DK Canada. It's not just a simple book of art projects. It's so much more. Making it a truly valuable homeschooling resource. Learn about the history of cave paintings and then make your own with colours you make yourself! Find out more about Aboriginal dot painings, African masks, as well as well known paintings by Edgar Degas and Vincent Van Gogh. Maija loves The Star by Degas and immediately pulled out her pastels and tried to reproduce this beautiful picture. This was her first attempt. Not too bad! There is so much to learn and discover. Your little artist will be bursting with excitement!

If you would like to add this beautiful book to your home library collection you can purchase it directly from DK Canada, with FREE shipping on orders over $50 or order it through Amazon.ca.

  4. Love Love Love DK - they put the same quality into books for all ages. Your daughter definitely got someone's artistic inclination - that is an impressive grasp of space and layout in her masterpiece there (even if it is a "copy" - you would be surprised at how off most adults are when they try to copy things!)

  8. I love that this book covers so many different techniques... my 12 yr old daughter is the artist in our family, constantly drawing, painting...working with clay, and some of her creations are pretty amazing... we've been going to the book stores and buying books on art, but something like this book that covers a great many types of art would be fantastic!

  21. What a great book idea. When a child is artistically inclined not only will it be fun but also honing a skill at the same time.
