I LOVE the zoo!!!

One of my fondest memories is from my grade 3 trip to the Toronto Zoo. It was 1985 and the zoo had a pair of Giant Pandas visiting for 3 months. In those short 3 months those beautiful Pandas attracted 750,000 visitors. Our class made a huge project from that momentous event. Someone built a Panda frame using chicken wire and our class covered it in black and white paper mache. It was beautiful and sat atop of our reading tree-house in the library for as long as I can remember.

I think every class in the Toronto area visits the zoo on a class field trip at least once at some point. That's why I love, as a homeschooler, being able to give that experience to my girls. We've been twice in the last two weeks and plan to go again this weekend.

It's sad knowing that the last 3 Elephants that have called our zoo their home for so many years will be leaving us sometime soon. I hope that their journey to their new sanctuary finds them safe and healthy on the other end. They will be missed so much by our city.

But on the bright side we have many new friends. We were so excited by the addition of new penguins and most of all 3 beautiful, young, and playful White Lions. It's is such a rare opportunity to see these beautiful creatures that have not been seen in the wild for over 15 years! I hope the zoo is successful in breeding these amazing animals and help save them from extinction.

I look forward to many more trips to the zoo this year and next spring we get another visit by a new pair of Giant Pandas. I am crazy excited about that! I can't wait for my girls to see them in real life just like I did when I was their age. And who knows, maby we'll make our own paper mache Panda for our class project. Maybe just a little smaller this time:)

I hope wherever you live that there is a zoo nearby.
