DK Canada - First Animal Encyclopedia {review}

Every child loves learning about animals and my girls are no exception. One of the great benefits of homeschooling is being able to teach your kids what really interests them. And we love learning about all sorts of animals. I love Panda Bears the most because I remember going to see them at the zoo when I was in grade 3. They are so beautiful. My nine year old has always admired Cheetahs and my 4 year old, well, her answer changes daily. First Animal Encyclopedia from DK Canada is a fantastic resource for our homeschooling curriculum. We can pick the animals they want to learn more about and create a lesson plan featuring those animals. Every week we can pick a different group of animals and learn something new.

First Animal Encyclopedia is divided into 5 section, Mammals, Birds, Reptiles and Amphibians, Creepy-crawlies, and Fish. Each section then features different groups of animals such as Flightless Birds, pictured below.
Learn more about Big Cats, Rodents, Water Mammals, Spiders and Scorpions, and so much more. The pictures are beautiful, bright and engaging. The pages of the book also have special features that will encourage learning. The animal quiz will have your kids searching through the pages for the answers. Info buttons point you to where you can look for more information on a subject or will offer some extra weird and wonderful animal facts. In addition, each page on the left asks a different question. The answer to each question appears upside down on the right page. Find out why cats have whiskers, how big an elephants toenail is, which birds are able to tie knots, and which insect can run the fastest. There is so much to learn and discover with this book. I'm sure your kids would love it too!

I was so happy to get the opportunity to review this  book and my daughters are very excited to start discovering new animals. 7. My step son had a very rough beginning in his life and since being in our custody has been diagnosed with several disabilities including a learning disorder and I find that when he has one on one outside of the school setting he thrives! He is also an animal lover and he would love to read this with me and learn about different species. Thank you so much for the chance :)
